CKM prides itself on offering students a high quality standards-based education for grades 9-12. Course offerings include English, mathematics, social sciences, science, world languages, physical education, and various electives. The curriculum is based on state content standards as set forth by the California Department of Education.

CKM is home to the district’s highly acclaimed Humanities and International Studies Program (HISP), the Air Force Junior ROTC, Criminal Justice Academy and the Law & Public Policy (LPPA). CKM also offers a selection of Regional Occupational Program (ROP) classes.

Humanities and International Studies Program

CKM hosts a magnet Humanities and International Studies Program (HISP). Selection for HISP—an open enrollment opportunity district-wide—is highly competitive and entails additional requirements, including an essay exam, submission of transcripts, test scores, and teacher recommendations.

HISP has additional requirements both academic and extracurricular (community service and cultural event attendance). Visit the HISP website for complete information on applying to HISP including entrance requirements, application procedure, curriculum, and summer reading lists.

Air Force Junior ROTC Unit CA-841

The nationally recognized Air Force Junior ROTC works with students who desire to develop leadership potential. This open-enrollment program provides an outstanding scholastic program in the areas of aero-dynamics, science, history and cultural awareness. Building self-esteem through practice and through responsibility is a prime factor to which students are attracted.

Nationally, the AFJROTC program provides citizenship training and an aerospace science program at the high school level. Units are located at just under 900 high schools across the United States and at selected U.S. Department of Defense schools in Europe, the Pacific and Puerto Rico.

Criminal Justice Academy

This magnet academy includes all basic high school course requirements plus specialized training in the field of law enforcement. Students will study the basic course materials used by those in training to be police cadets. Additionally, the curriculum covers investigative procedures, forensic science, physical training and principles of the law.

The Criminal Justice Academy is offered through a partnership with the Sacramento Police Department. Students will be provided opportunities to explore the broad range of careers within the field of criminal justice during their enrollment in the program. Many students will be eligible to apply for the position of Public Service Aide with the SacPD, while continuing their education at a local college or university, possibly leading to a position as a sworn officer or full time civilian position with the City of Sacramento.

Law and Public Policy Academy (LPPA)

CKM is honored to host SCUSD’s newest magnet program, the Law and Public Policy Academy (LPPA). The LPPA will provide students with a means to explore the broad range of careers within the field of law. Their courses at CKM will be taught through the lens of the legal system.

Students in LPPA will learn from and work with many community partners in the field of law, such as McGeorge and UC Davis Schools of Law, working judges and lawyers, as well as paralegals, court reporters and legislative aides. McClatchy Law and Public Policy graduates will be prepared to take leadership roles in the world of law or in other circles of influence.
