C. K. McClatchy High School has a long and proud athletic tradition. Our mascot
is the Lion, and our colors are cardinal and white. McClatchy participates in
the Metro League, which is part of the
CIF Sac-Joaquin section.
Many teams put information such as schedules and rosters on our external
McClatchy Athletics website. Other stats may be found at
Max Preps.

Directions to CKM
Get
directions to CKM, located in the heart of Sacramento’s Land Park
neighborhood.
Visitor parking
Parents and other visitors to CKM must park in the designated area in front of
the school in parking spaces labeled for visitors. For special events,
additional parking is available on the north and south sides of the school. Take
care when parking in surrounding neighborhoods as parking restrictions apply.
Fall sports
CKM’s football team works hard under the leadership of
new coach
Malcolm Floyd. All home
games take place on campus. A small admission fee is
charged with a discount available to students with an
ASB sticker. The games always feature a halftime
performance by the acclaimed
CKM
Marching Band and Color Guard. The atmosphere is
highlighted by our cheer squad and playful mascot, Leo
the Lion.
The men’s and women’s varsity cross-country and water polo teams; women’s
volleyball, golf and tennis teams; and men’s soccer teams are usually highly
successful within the Metro League.
Winter sports
Basketball is a strong tradition at CKM with a full roster of junior varsity and
varsity players in both men’s and women’s hoops. Basketball games have a small
admission fee, with a student discount for those with the ASB sticker.
Much-revered basketball coach Harvey Tahara retired in
2011 after 40 seasons coaching both men’s and women’s
basketball. “Coach T” was honored, and his “jersey”
retired, at the final home
basketball game vs. the Burbank Titans. At that
time, Superintendent Raymond also announced that the CKM
gymnasium would be renamed Janice and Harvey Tahara
Court.
The 2010/2011 men’s and women’s wrestling team has a new head coach, TS
Hamilton. Coach Hamilton was the assistant wrestling coach last season. The
wrestling team also has two new assistant coaches, Shawn Smith & Dean Peckham,
who are also CKM parents. Matches are fast, exciting and admission is free for
students and just one dollar for adults. For more information contact Coach
Smith at 445-8932 or Coach Peckham at 508-0892.
The CKM rugby team participates in the Sacramento Valley
High School Rugby Conference as a Club sport with
varsity, junior varsity, and freshman teams. CKM’s team
is a growing tradition and competing successfully with
established programs such as Christian Brothers, Jesuit
and Cordova.
Spring sports
The fields come alive at CKM in the spring, with baseball and softball, women’s
soccer, track and field and men’s tennis. The swim and dive team keeps the pool
busy daily after school, and the men’s volleyball team uses the gym. There is an
opportunity for every student to participate in a sport during the spring season
as many of these sports have a no-cut policy.
