Attendance Center 916-264-4400, ext. 1010 or 1011
Regular attendance at high school is
a commitment on the part of students and parents.
Consistent attendance is the cornerstone of success.
Legitimate/verified absences, late arrivals, and early
dismissals mean that a parent or guardian is aware and
implicitly approves of a student’s whereabouts. Invalid
absences, late arrivals (tardies), and unauthorized
departures from the campus during the school day imply a
student is acting without parental authority and is
truant.
For complete information about
attendance, consult the
Student Handbook.
Absences
To report
your student absent, parents must call CKM’s Attendance
Center and follow the directions on the voicemail
message. For extended absences, parents should call the
Attendance Center every day the student is absent.
When a
student returns after an absence, s/he must report to
the Attendance Center before school (7:45 a.m. – 8:10
a.m.) with a written note indicating (1) student’s full
name; (2) date(s) of absence and period(s) missed; (3)
specific reason for absence; (4) parent or guardian
signature.
The
Attendance Center will provide the student with a
readmit. The student is responsible for obtaining
signatures from teachers of all classes missed during
his or her absence. Students will not be permitted to go
to class without a readmit.
Absences
not validated with a parent note are considered
uncleared. Uncleared absences become truant after five
days without presentation of a written note explaining
an absence. See the
Student Handbook for consequences of uncleared absences.
Early dismissals
In the
event a student must leave school during the normal
school day for a doctor or dental appointment or any
personal business, students must bring a note (see above
note requirements under “Absences”) to the Attendance
Center before school begins (7:45 a.m. – 8:10 a.m.) or
during lunch if time permits. The Attendance Office will
issue an off-campus pass allowing the student to leave
early with permission. In the case of an emergency, a
parent may phone in the early dismissal request which
will be delivered to the student during class time.
If a
student becomes ill at school, s/he must report to the
Nurse’s Office and obtain an early dismissal pass.
Students
leaving campus prior to the end of the school day
without an early dismissal from the Attendance Office,
School Nurse, or an administrator will be considered
truant. See the
Student Handbook for consequences of
truancy.
Late arrivals
Students
who are arriving late to campus due to doctor or dental
appointment or personal business must report to the
Attendance Center before reporting to class. Students
will receive a readmit and must have the form signed by
teachers of missed class(es).
Without
parent permission, a student is considered tardy if s/he
is not in his or her assigned classroom before the bell
completes ringing. A student who is tardy will be
assigned detention after school. See the
Student Handbook for additional consequences of being tardy.
CKM
administrators conduct random tardy sweeps during the
school day and throughout the school year. Parents will
be notified if a student is not on campus, or if a
student misses one or more classes and no record of
parent permission to leave campus is on file. Parents
are advised to check with the Attendance Center after
receiving a phone call about their student’s absence.
Legitimate absences (such as early dismissal for sports)
should be cleared.
Detention
The
failure of a student to honor the school’s attendance
policies and procedures may result in a parent call or
conference, detention, or Saturday school. Detention is held daily in Room
20 from 3:30
p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
