The California Department of Education notes that “the arts have been evolving continually, exhibiting the ability of human beings to intuit, symbolize, think, and express themselves through dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts. Each of the arts contains a distinct body of knowledge and skills that characterize the power of each to expand the perceptual, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual dimensions of human experience.”

To that end, CKM offers students outstanding arts instruction, engaging student clubs, quality performance opportunities, and exceptional cultural and artistic events programming.

CKM offers students a wide variety of visual and performing arts classes. Courses include:

The arts come alive at CKM

Throughout the year, the school showcases student performances by CKM’s choir, orchestra, band, and drama department. CKM also has a long tradition of hosting local and regional performing arts groups (such as the Sacramento Symphony, B Street Theatre, Sacramento Ballet, and more) that bring exciting programs to campus. In addition, nationally known authors of popular books have visited CKM to speak to students about their work.

Clubs

Students may choose to participate in a number of visual and performing arts clubs such as the Anime Club and the Art and Poetry Club.

CKM’s drama club—the Lion’s Pride Players—presents a play in the fall and a musical in the spring. CKM’s Marching Band and Color Guard has an annual concert schedule, attends a variety of competitions throughout the year, and plays at CKM football and basketball games.
